GALLIPOLI TOUR 2012

The Great War Historian Peter Hart is acting as guide to a tour of Gallipoli between Sunday 3rd and Sunday 10th June 2012. The administrative details will be handled by Roger Chapman to ensure it is a smooth operation! The tour is primarily aimed at the UK market and I would suggest that Australians interested in visiting Gallipoli should use our good friends at Mat McLachlan Battlefield Tours.

The itinerary is set out below. Maximum of 28 people only - first come first served. Minimum number at these prices 12.

COST: Single room per person will be £700
COST: Shared room per person will be £600

A Deposit of £200 is required to secure a place and the balance owing must be paid by 30 March 2012. This deposit is not returnable in the event of the guest cancelling. However it will be returned if we are able to fill the vacancy.
Payment by bank transfer (details to follow) or cheque made payable to Roger Chapman.

IT SHOULD BE NOTED that this tour does not include the cost of your air tickets or your Turkish entry visa (£10 paid in cash) paid on arrival. It is your responsibility to meet us at the arranged times at the Istanbul airport of Sabiha Gökçen Airport - chosen as the Easy Jet Tickets are most reasonably priced. We would advise you to book as soon as you have been accepted for the tour! We will collect from Sabiha Gökçen Airport at 13.00 to 14.00 on Sunday 3rd June - details to be confirmed. Flights are from Luton airport to Sabiha Gökçen. Roger and I are travelling on these flights as follows.

The Crowded House at Eceabat is providing our accommodation with overflow accommodation if needed at Hotel Boss just 50 yards away. This is basic backpacker-style accommodation with few frills but it is ensuite!

This tour is a walking tour covering some rough ground and is only suitable for those people capable of the physical exertion involved in climbing some steep hills and walks of up to 3 miles in rough country in a hot climate. Please ask if you have doubts about your health. However you must ensure that you have adequate travel and medical insurance cover for the duration of the tour. We strongly recommend that you and all members of your party be adequately insured as soon as you book your holiday. But you must let us have details of your insurance policy at least four weeks prior to departure.

We cannot accept liability where the performance of our obligations with you is prevented or affected, or you otherwise suffer any damage, loss or expense as a result of force majeure. Force Majeure means unusual and unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control, the consequences of which neither we nor the local operators could avoid, including (but not limited to) war, riot, civil strife, terrorist activity, industrial dispute, natural or nuclear disaster, fire flood, adverse weather conditions or the threat of any of these. We will however refund your payment if the tour does not run at all.

GALLIPOLI RECCE MAY 2012

Peter Hart and other historians are undertaking a serious recce tour of Gallipoli between Wednesday 2nd May and Tuesday 8th May 2012. The administrative details will be handled by Roger Chapman to ensure it is a smooth operation! This tour is open to anyone who has a knowledge of Gallipoli and will be physically challenging. You must be reasonably fit and able to walk up to 5 miles in rough scrubby country.

Maximum of 15 people only - first come first served. Minimum of 10 at the quoted prices.

COST: Single room per person will be £650
COST: Shared room per person will be £550

Wednesday 2nd May
13.00-14.00 Tour begins. Roger & Pete will meeting you at Sabiha Gokcen Airport. Here we will be collected by our Tour Operators Crowded House.
14.00-20.00 Coach from Istanbul to Eceabat hotel.
20.00 Evening meal.

Five Days at Gallipoli
There is no set itinerary. Each day though will have the following pattern.
08.30 Breakfast at Eceabat hotel.
09.00 Depart from hotel.
09.30-13.00 Explore in detail an area of the battlefield e.g. Gully Ravine
13.00-14.00 Lunch perhaps a beach swim depending on weather and location.
14.00-17.30 Explore in detail smaller nearby sectors the battlefield e.g. Krithia Nullah or French sector. Also visit nearby 'points of interest' as appropriate.
17.30 Coach back to Eceabat hotel.
20.00 Evening meal.

During our 5 full days on the battlefields of Helles, Anzac and Suvla it is intended (but not guaranteed) that we will try explore most of the following:-

*Suvla: Kiretch Tepe, Kidney Hill and the Boot
*Suva: Hill 60, Chocolate Hill, Scimitar Hill, W Hills
* Old Anzac: Shrapnel Valley etc
* North Anzac: Rhododendron Ridge, Bauchops Hill, Cheshire Ridge, The Farm, the route taken by 4th Brigade on 6 August.
*Helles: Gully Ravine
*Helles: Krithia Ravine, Achi Baba Nullah & French Sector
